Lumina reflection

During my studies, I completed the Lumina Spark profile twice: one is year 1 and again in year 3. This gave me the opportunity to not only reflect on my personality, but also to compare my development over time.

The goal of the Lumina workshop was to increase self-awareness, understand differences in behavior, and support personal leadership development.

The two Lumina profiles can be found in the appendix chapter here:

Key insights, who am I?

Looking back at both profiles, there are several patterns that stayed consistent. In both year 1 and year 3. I score high on:

  • Extraversion
  • Creativity and big picture thinking
  • Energy and enthusiasm in social settings

For example, my year 3 profile describes me as someone who is “enthusiastic, sociable, and an idea generator who inspires others”. I also recognize myself strongly as someone who enjoys connecting with people, brings energy into teams, and thinks in possibilities rather than limitations. This confirms that my core strengths have remained stable over time.

Development over time

However, when comparing both profiles, I also see an interesting shift. In year 1, my profile shows a stronger tendency towards taking control, stepping into leadership roles quickly, and focusing on results and direction.

In year 3, this has developed into a more balanced approach. I still have strong leadership qualities, but I am now more aware of the impact of my behavior on others, the importance of listening, and creating space within a team.

For example, my year 3 profile highlights that my communication style can sometimes be overwhelming for more introverted people. This is something I have became more aware of during my internship, especially while working and living in a diverse and international team.

In both profiles, I remain strongly extraverted, creative, and inspiration-driven. This shows that my core personality: being energetic, social, and idea-focused, has stayed consistent over time.

However, looking deeper, there is a noticeable difference in balance. In year 1, my profile shows stronger peaks in result-driven and discipline-driven behaviour, which suggests that I was more focused on achieving and taking control. In year 3, my profile appears more spread out and balanced, especially in people-focused and inspiration-driven areas.

This indicates that I have developed a more reflective and aware way of working. Instead of only focusing on outcomes, I now place more value on collaboration, creativity, and understanding others.

At the same time, my discipline and structure are still less dominant areas, which confirms that this remains an important development point for me moving forward.

Strengths vs development points

The Lumina profile also clearly shows the balance between strengths and development areas. My strengths:

  • Creativity and idea generation
  • Social skills and networking
  • Energy and motivation

My development points:

  • Maintaining structure and consistency
  • Grounding ideas in reality
  • Focusing on details and execution

For example, the profile highlights that I sometime “lose myself in possibilities and need to bring ideas back to reality”. This strongly connects to my experiences during projects and my internship, where I noticed that creativity comes naturally to me, but structure requires more conscious effort. It also can be challenging for me to get the ideas I have out of my head. To transform them from daydreams to real ideas that can be managed to be worked out.

Linking to my development

What makes this insight valuable is that I now understand that my strengths and weaknesses are connected.

  • My creativity --> can become chaos without structure
  • My energy --> can overwhelm others
  • My flexibility --> can lead to lack of discipline

This helped me realize that development is not about changing who I am, but about balancing my natural qualities

Looking forward

Based on my Lumina profile, my main development focus for the future is:

  • Bringing more structure into my work
  • Translating ideas into concrete actions
  • Adapting my communication to different types of people

The Lumina workshop and my analysis made me more aware of my behavior and gave me language to describe it. It supports the idea of personal leadership, where self-awareness is the starting point for development.

Instead of trying to become a completely different type of professional, I now focus on strengthening my qualities while consciously working on my development areas. This awareness will guide me in future projects, my graduation, and my professional career
